Signs Your Concrete Floors Need a Protective Coating

Isn’t Concrete Invincible?

Cracks, dusting, and wear are early warning signs.

It is a common myth that concrete lasts forever. After all, the Roman Colosseum is still standing after all these years. And while that may be technically true, that concrete has seen hundreds of repairs in order to stand the test of time.

Step on a Crack

One of the most common signs your concrete floor needs a coating is the ominous crack. Cracking usually starts small and barely perceptible. Over time, however, your concrete floor will add more and more cracks that start to criss-cross and overlap each other. Oftentimes, cracks will get wider and wider, leaving you with deep gouges in your once perfect floor.

Not the Moon

The moon is certainly lovely, but most of us wouldn’t like the surface of our concrete to match it. Pitting is another great sign that it is time to get a protective concrete coating. Pitting can be deep or shallow, wide or narrow. Regardless of the size of the pits, if you have started to notice that your concrete floors are pitting, it is only a matter of time before the pits get deeper and eventually turn into lunar craters. Craters are one of the surefire signs that concrete floors need coating.

Call a Dentist

Do your concrete floors just not have the same brightness that they once did? Are they multicolored with stains? Do you find yourself spending more and more time on your hands and knees trying to scrub out the impossible?

Concrete is naturally porous and will absorb and hold onto anything spilled on it, especially if it has an oily base. Usually, the coating on top of your floor would prevent these stains from seeping in, so if you are noticing stains, it is time to call a commercial floor coating service and get a fresh coat!

Bubble Wrap

Has your floor started to look like it should be featured on pimple poppers? Or is it scaly like lizard skin? Both of these are issues with the concrete coating that need to be addressed. Sometimes this may be just a small portion of the floor, and sometimes it may be the whole thing. Whatever you do, don’t peel or pop the bubbles in your floor.

Get a professional to come examine it and decide if you need your entire concrete floor recoated or just a portion.

Just Plain Ugly

Last but not least of the signs concrete floors need coating is that you simply do not like the way your floor looks. Maybe you want a different color than the grey that was put down ten years ago. Maybe you want your floor to have a bit of flair with some flaking added to the coating. Whatever your aesthetic issue is with your floor, if you find yourself hating it, then it is time to get a fresh coating!
