Epoxy is a strong and durable material for indoor and outdoor flooring, but like everything else,
it will always last longer if you take good care of it. While Blue Ridge Coatings and Sealants will
always provide you with a quality product installed thoughtfully, once we leave, the condition
of the floor is up to you! Here are a few ways for maintaining your epoxy flooring.
Cleaning Your Epoxy Flooring
To keep your floor looking shiny and new, you’ll need to clean it regularly. But cleaning your
floor isn’t just for looks and sanitation. It also helps to prevent damage to your floor.
Without cleaning, tiny bits of dirt, sand, and other particles can grind into the surface of your
floor as people walk over it. Of course, not every cleaner is a good choice for epoxy surfaces.
Avoid using abrasive cleaners on your epoxy floors. Instead, use water and ph-neutral cleaners.
A water and vinegar solution may be just what your floor needs! Or if Blue Ridge Coatings
installed your flooring, we’ll give you a list of approved cleaning solutions and products for
maintaining your epoxy flooring. Also, avoid abrasive tools. Sweep with a soft bristle broom or vacuum regularly.
Finally, when you spill something on your floor, clean it up promptly.
Protecting Your Flooring
There are many other ways that you could accidentally damage your epoxy flooring. Heavy
objects can cause cracks if dropped or placed carelessly, and sharp objects can also leave
scratches.
You should regularly inspect your flooring to ensure it hasn’t been scratched or damaged. It’s
much easier to fix a problem when you catch it early; minor problems can grow if you don’t
address them.
Another way to protect your flooring is to place doormats at entrances and exits. You may also
choose to hang up signs requesting that people wipe their feet before they come in. A polite
request can go a long way to improve your floor’s longevity.
Temperature and Maintaining Epoxy Flooring
Temperature changes can affect the of longevity your flooring. If your epoxy surface is
outdoors, there’s not much you can do about temperature changes, but indoors, you can
maintain the inside climate within the manufacturer’s instructions.
Note that placing hot objects directly on top of your flooring can also damage it. So avoid
putting anything right out of an oven or fireplace on your flooring, and when in doubt, use
thermal protection.
Reapplying Your Topcoat
The topcoat of your flooring is what keeps the rest of it safe. Maintaining the topcoat of your
epoxy flooring will help it last for years to come!
Periodicially, you may want to have Blue Ridge Coatings reapply your topcoat to reseal your
floor. Doing so is more cost effective than replacing your floor and will go a long way toward
maintaining your floor.
